What the site covers

  • Farmhouse decor ideas: where to begin, warm white color palettes, natural textures and materials, decorative baskets, entryways and the mistakes worth avoiding.
  • Rooms: the living room, the kitchen and the bedroom, each looked at as a whole and then one surface at a time.
  • Walls, shelves and tabletops: gallery walls, mirrors, wreaths and simple signs, shelf styling, and the coffee table, mantel, counter, nightstand and dining table.
  • Simple DIY accents: a greenery hoop wreath, glass jar decor, a no-sew table runner and other projects for a weekend.
  • Modern farmhouse: clean lines, contrast, and how to mix modern and rustic pieces with vintage-inspired accents.
  • Seasonal styling: spring, fall and Christmas updates built from greenery, natural materials and a few simple swaps.

If you are new here, begin with Farmhouse Decor for Beginners, then read about choosing a farmhouse color palette, farmhouse living room ideas and wall decor for blank walls. If you like making things, DIY farmhouse decor ideas is a good next step, and modern farmhouse style explains the cleaner version of the look. Every guide is listed on the Tutorials page.

How the guides are written

Each guide covers one room, one wall, one shelf or one tabletop from start to finish. The ideas are original and are written to be adapted: no two homes are alike, so a guide explains the reasoning behind a suggestion and not only the suggestion itself.

  • Measurements are starting points. Heights, gaps and sizes are given in inches as a place to begin. Check them against your own room, furniture and sight lines before you commit to anything.
  • Products are described by type, not by brand. There are no brand recommendations, no sponsored product claims, no paid placements and no invented reviews, ratings or testimonials.
  • The illustrations are original. The pictures are illustrations drawn for each guide. They are drawings of an idea, not photographs of a real home, and they are there to show placement, proportion and arrangement.
  • Time and difficulty are estimates. Where a guide has an “At a glance” card, the time, difficulty and list of what you need are approximate and depend on your room and what you already own.

What the site does not do

Farmhouse Decor shares general decorating information. It does not give renovation, construction, structural, electrical or other professional advice, and it cannot assess your particular home.

  • Renovation and building work. The guides are about decor and styling: what goes on a wall, a shelf or a table. Work on the structure, surfaces or services of a house is outside what the site covers.
  • Fixing things to a wall. Walls are built differently. Choose fixings for your wall type and for the weight of what you are hanging, and follow the manufacturer’s instructions for the fixing and for the object.
  • Shelves and furniture. The site does not state how much weight any shelf, bracket or piece of furniture can carry. Use the limits given by the manufacturer.
  • Lighting and electrics. The guides stay with lamps and other ready-to-use lighting, used as their makers instruct. Anything that involves wiring belongs with a licensed electrician.
  • Candles. Where a guide shows candlelight, flameless candles are the default suggestion. If you use real candles, never leave them unattended and keep them away from greenery, dried stems and fabric.
